Placing an Emergency Call
Placing an Emergency Call
In an Emergency
Dial 911. Use the nearest phone you can reach. Most classrooms have a physical handset mounted on a wall or on the desk of the teacher. You should also consider using your cell phone or borrowing someone else's if you can't find a physical handset.
Follow the directions of the 911 operator over the phone. District phones are set up to report your location to the operator automatically, but in case you require addresses:
- West Valley campus: 14000 Fruitvale Avenue, Saratoga, California, 95070.
- Mission College campus: 3000 Mission College Boulevard, Santa Clara, California, 95054.
- To narrow down your location, give the operator the name of the building or parking lot you're in. Look for nearby signs indicating the building or lot name.
If the situation permits it and if the 911 operator does not require you to stay on the line with them, district policy also asks that you notify WVMCCD Police Services and inform them that you have made an emergency call. Their line is 1-(408)-299-2311.
Non-Emergency
For non-emergency situations, you should consider contacting the WVMCCD Police Services line at 1-(408)-299-2311.
If the situation requires a 911 call and is time-permitting you can also reach 911 on your computer through the Zoom app after signing in with SSO. While this process is simple, it is lengthier than seeking a physical phone if you weren't already logged in, so it generally should not be your first choice in an emergency. It also requires a connection to the internet, which may not be reliable if a severe enough emergency occurs and takes down our network.
You can check your emergency address that will be reported to the 911 operator in advance by navigating to your Zoom phone settings then viewing the Emergency Address field.
